HOW TO DEFINE HEPATITIS
In acute hepatitis :
- There is diffuse swelling of the hepatocytes, proliferation of Kupffer cells lining the sinusoids and infiltration of the portal areas by lymphocytes and monocytes.
- The liver parenchympa may have a diffusely decreased echogenicity with accentuated brightness of the portal triads, periportal cuffing .
- Hepatomegaly and thickening (edematous) of the gallbladder wall are associated findings.
